Black Thunder is Sick!!

Black Thunder aka my car, is sick.  😦 I just got it Feb. 2nd and I’m already having problems with it.  I bought it from Carmax and didn’t imagine I’d be having this problem so soon.  The repair guy said that the (air shocks) are not covered w/ my warranty and would cost $1500 + $300 labor to fix.  I’m so livid! I’ve already written the corporate office this letter:

To whom it may concern,

On February 2, 2008, I bought a car from Carmax Houston SW Frwy.  You can only imagine my dismay, when yesterday morning, I couldn’t drive it b/c there was a check engine light flashing.  I had to have it towed back to carmax, and paid $65.  I got a call this morning, from Stephen saying that the repair is $1500 + $300 labor and that one part (air shock) is not covered in the warranty.

I then was transferred to Marty, the service manager and  told him that it’s not right that I just bought this car  a little more than 3 months ago and now I’m having to spend $1800 in repairs.  I told him that my parents were both in the room when we were told by Brady, the extended warranty would cover “bumper to bumper”.  I also told him that I was told they do a 125 point inspection before selling the cars and if the car was fully inspected then this shouldn’t even be happening. Wouldn’t damage of this magnitude been noted during the inspection? It makes me wonder if this extensive inspection is actually administered.  Marty said he was “going to talk to his people and see what he could do”. It is now 4 hours later and I haven’t heard any word.

I am an extremely loyal and dedicated customer to Carmax, as this is the third car that I have bought from your corporation.  I experienced transmission problems shortly after purchasing my previous car, but the warranty took care of it.  I decided to give Carmax another chance when buying my current car, but didn’t imagine this to be a perpetual occurrence.  I would never have bought a car knowing that I would end up paying $1800, 3 months later!!!

I have been without a vehicle 2 days now, and have had to call the service department on my own because they have prolonged getting back to me.

I would like to thank you in advance for your prompt attention to this email and I will give you an opportunity to rectify the situation before contacting my father’s attorney, BBB, and other consumer sites such as rateitall and eopinions.

  1. Uhhhhh German Cars. Thats why I got rid of my German Stud. I did ride him for good five years, and I did put 100K on it. But I also paid for it very dearly too.

  2. Praise GOD that he answered your prayers, and took care of the situation. I know it sucks not having a car right now, but you’ll have your baby back soon. Hang in there!

  3. Customer service is dead. I can testify to that. American Airlines. Just say no to flying their airways…
As for Carmax, they make themselves out as too much of a good thing. I always thought that they seemed fishy. Hope things turn out better.
