There are things in this life that we will never fully understand or be able to explain. They shape us and direct us to follow God’s ever unfolding plan. We struggle with these unexplainable things and seek to know the purpose when in fact God never really wants you to know or understand, but He desires for you to trust in Him more than you ever thought imaginable. He wants us to come to Him with these experiences open handed saying, “I may not understand its purpose or why it happened Lord, but it happened and I surrender it to you for your glory.” This is one of the hardest concepts to grasp but one of the most rewarding- seeing God’s glorious hand take charge in the unexplainable, undefined moments in life.
The struggle happens more times in relationships with other people than anything else. God brings people into your life for a time and without warning they are violently torn from it. You stand with tear filled eyes before the Lord wondering why for only a season this amazing person was in your life. The questions fill your heart and mind and you want to shout that it’s not fair, not what you deserve, not what you want. You feel restless and at a loss for words. For a time this person challenged you to feel again from the pain you felt once before, to cherish small things in life like the amazing night sky, and to be fully aware of your identity in Christ. When the season for this person is over there is an overwhelming feeling that somehow God made a mistake.
God didn’t make a mistake. He saw in His plan for your life the purpose of this person. It may not be fair or what you want, it may not be easy to let go, but still the fact remains, you must. You have to humbly stand before the Lord with open arms saying, “Here I am, just as I am with all my hurt and disappointment, knowing that you see every twist, every turn in this road called life.” This is hard when you are hurting from the absence of someone that changed you forever. The Lord calls us to stand before Him and surrender these feelings, allowing His peace and contentment to flow through our hurting hearts. This person may have only been in your life for a season, but you were forever changed for God’s glory by their presence. The season may come again and if it does, with one look, with one word, your life will be forever changed just like before.
There are moments in life when you desire above all else to feel special. You long for someone to realize your unique value, your irreplaceability. For someone to look in your eyes and be fixed on the natural beauty of your soul and spirit. To look and find that you are amazing and worth every minute of their quest to uncover the person within you. You long to enrich those around you by allowing them to absorb your thoughts and feelings. Knowing that when they walk away, their life is forever changed. Feeling special is something we all desire and need. It resides deep within us and usually doesn’t surface until life’s stings take it away. These feelings resonate deep within us during specific seasons, changing and altering their shape from moment to moment.
